Contact the Revd Stephen Sichel revstephen@stmatthewsbrixton.org | Our VisionThe parish priest and church council at St Matthews are working to encourage a new sense of mission amongst the congregation at St Matthews. We strive for vibrant, relevant and uplifting worship, and for the growth of the congregation as a community. We strive also to connect in new ways with the wider community on the basis of the Kingdom values of justice and compassion.
Projects We support South London Citizens, an alliance of faith and other community groups taking action on local and London-wide issues.
St Jude's School St Matthews is now the centre of worship for the newly constituted Parish of Brixton, St Matthew with St Jude. St Jude's Church of England primary school (Voluntary Aided) is situated in Regent road in the former parish of St Jude. Links between the school and church are being established.
The Choir Music is important to us, and St Matthew's sings out. For those wanting to help lead the congregation, choir practice is on Friday, 6.30pm to 7.30pm. All ages welcome, no singing experience is necessary. We sing parts of the Communion services, and other songs composed and led by Choirmaster and Organist Francis Reneau, MBE. If you would like to join the choir, contact us.
Children Children are very welcome at St Mathews and form a strong and well-loved part of our congregation. During part of each Sunday's worship, they children learn about God in Sunday School. There are two groups, for those aged five to eight, and those aged eight upwards. Sunday School starts at 9.45, before the main service, so come early.
There is also a room in which children under five can play. Weddings and Funerals
