Mothers’ Union

The Mothers’ Union is an international Christian membership charity that aims to demonstrate the Christian faith in action through the transformation of communities worldwide. It does this through the promotion of stable marriage, family life and the protection of children. This is their mission. It is what they aim to achieve.

There are more than four million members of Mothers’ Union today in 83 countries around the world. Each member subscribes to the same values; the moral and ethical codes that are central to the ways in which it operates:

  1. The Mothers’ Union is firmly rooted in a voluntary ethos centred on mutual respect and collaboration.
  2. It’s governance, leadership, and programmes are driven by and undertaken through members within their own communities worldwide.
  3. It works with people of all faiths and none.

St Matthew’s Church has a faithful group of around ten people who are members of the Mothers’ Union. They meet occasionally. For more details speak with Janice Daley. In 2011 Reg Bailey, Chief Executive of the Mothers’ Union, led a review into the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood. Details here.

The Mothers’ Union believes children should be valued as children, not consumers. The Bye Buy Childhood campaign aims to empower families to challenge the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood through positive action.
