About Us
St Matthew’s is home to the worshipping community of the Church of England Parish of Brixton, St Matthew w St Jude. The parish boundaries include central Brixton and stretch east towards Herne Hill and include the parish primary school of St Jude’s (Regent Road, Herne Hill).
We are an all-age worshipping community that strives to be inclusive, (accepting of all to membership in Christ – Galatians 3. 28) and faithful to the God who calls us and loves us in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Our worship is traditional (Liturgical) with a touch of spice, enriched by both silence and praise – St Matthews likes to sing out! – and seeks to be attentive and responsive to God’s life-giving Word in both Holy Scripture and Holy Communion.
Baptism – ‘Christenings’ for children or adults;
Confirmation – preparation for participation in Holy Communion (which can include baptism);
Funerals for those who lived within the parish’s territorial boundaries (regardless of their membership of the worshipping community) and church weddings (for those resident within the parish boundaries or with a strong connection to the worshipping community) are all possible on request.
